For over five decades, Ruth Chier Rosen traveled the globe, sampling local flavors and creating several hundreds of recipes for the home cook. She has published over forty recipe books under the Handy Aid Cookbook Press, including Volumes One and Two of A Guide to Pink Elephants. She was Director of the Creative Recipe Institute for three decades, creating unique recipes--captured in still photography under her direction--for several consortiums and companies.

This shop offers a variety of items relating to Food of the Fifties, which is Ruth's blog & website. We are based in New York City. We have many of her original issue recipe flipbooks. Coming soon: fun and fabulous napkins & coasters, as well as totes and t-shirts.

Our ORIGINAL ISSUE Cookbooks are available in a variety of styles
:

  • All of our MINT CONDITION Vintage Cookbooks have never been used, but they have seen some years go by in storage. All of our cookbooks are delivered in original-issue box packaging.
  • The DESIGNER BOX EDITION is available for a few of our publications. They are rare. They are packaged in decorated boxes that display the cover art of the book it houses.
  • GIFT BOX SETS: Several of Ruth's best sellers were also offered in gift configurations. Original-issue books were paired with thematic kitchen tools and utensils like salt & pepper mills and serving spoons. All are original-issue, in original packaging from the 50's, 60's, and 70's.
